Why is mozzarella cheese used for pizza?

Introduction

Mozzarella cheese is one of the most popular and most traditional ingredients in pizza, and there are several reasons why it is so widely used.

Firstly, the taste of mozzarella is ideal for pizza. It has a delicate taste and creamy texture that spreads on the pizza when exposed to heat, creating a great base for other ingredients.

Secondly, mozzarella tends to melt well and form a stretchy string of cheese on pizza, making it an ideal choice for pizza options such as Margherita or Four Cheese.

In addition, mozzarella has a sufficient amount of moisture, which allows it to spread and make available conditions, providing a tasty and juicy taste of pizza. It will also add a pleasant aromatic note to the pizza, enhancing the overall taste experience of consuming this Italian masterpiece.

So, mozzarella cheese is not just an ingredient, but a real base that gives pizza its characteristic taste, texture and flavor, making it an unbeatable favorite for many.

How mozzarella cheese is made

The process of making mozzarella cheese begins with the most important ingredient - milk. Usually cow's milk is used for its production, but buffalo milk can also be used, which gives the cheese a special taste.

The first stage is heating the milk to a certain temperature. After this, the enzyme and starter are added, which promotes the coagulation of milk protein. After some time, the milk turns into a cheese curd.

The next step is shaping the cheese. The curd is cut into small pieces and then dipped into hot whey. When exposed to heat and movement, the curd becomes elastic, allowing it to acquire the characteristic texture of mozzarella.

After the cheese is formed, it is left in the press for some time to remove excess whey and create a compact structure. The cheese is then cooled in water to set its shape.

The last step is to immerse the cheese in salt water, where it sits for some time to acquire the necessary salty taste.

After completing all these procedures, mozzarella cheese is ready for use. It has a delicate flavor and melts perfectly, making it an ideal ingredient for many dishes.

The main types of mozzarella cheese

Mozzarella has a delicate taste and plastic texture, which makes it an ideal component for many dishes. The main types of mozzarella include:

  • Mozzarella Fior di Latte: This is a classic mozzarella made from cow's milk. It has a delicate texture and a light taste of milk.
  • Mozzarella di Bufala: Made from water buffalo milk. This type has a richer taste and a more plastic texture, compared to Mozzarella Fior di Latte.
  • Babi Mozzarella: This mozzarella has a thicker and more elastic texture. It is made by adding more milk or by cooking cheese longer.
  • Viscous Mozzarella: This type of mozzarella has a more fibrous texture and is mainly used to create delicious pizzas and Italian dishes.

Regardless of the type, mozzarella is an excellent addition to salads, pizzas, pastas and other dishes that require cheese with a delicate taste and attractive texture.
